Numinus has been seen as a ‘sleeping giant’ for a while. The acquisition of Novamind by Numinus creates a particularly powerful company in North America. It looks to me like in the past year they’ve focused more on their North American operations in anticipation of change happening here at home through the FDA. Invested in clinical trials as well as therapeutic retreats and clinics, Novamind was well positioned in the United States as well as internationally. Novamind was another company with a cool name. Also Entheon gets an honourable mention for the throwback to the 90s term entheogenic (God-manifesting) that was a brief attempt to re-brand psychedelics away from the psyche- prefix. Mydecine gets points for combining mycology with medicine. There’s MindMed, Psybio, Cybin, Mindcure. Just throw the words Mind, Psyche, Medicine and Psilocybin in a blender and start a company. Other names in the space have been less inventive, if not downright reductive. Of course, Numinus as an alternate spelling of numinous makes a great name for the company it puts focus on that experience that so many people know exist but have trouble quantifying – the connection to nature, the divine, the reset. Numinus Wellness were one of the first companies out of the gate working closely with the Canadian government as well as MAPS to research and reschedule psychedelic compounds like psilocybin and MDMA. Immediately I knew they were talking about psychedelics, and turned up the volume. Numinus is an industry leader in psychedelic research and therapy. In any case, I listened as a woman opined about incredible results from some unknown treatment, replete with disclaimer that it may not be for everybody, but it certainly is working for somebody. As an English major I have come across the word before but I can’t remember where. Did he say numinous? As in, the sense of a mystical glow one feels in the presence of the divine? You have to admit you don’t hear that word a lot these days. When I first heard the name Numinus Wellness on a CBC radio show a few years ago, my ears perked up.
